Built for the part of the drive with no signal
Kenya's best roads run out of coverage long before they run out of road. Everything that matters on a drive works with the phone in aeroplane mode.
The route line and the map around it
Downloading a route stores its recorded line and the map tiles around it on the phone. What you see at the trailhead is what you saw at home.
Turn-by-turn guidance
Guidance runs against the downloaded line, not against a server. Losing signal at Kona Baridi changes nothing about the next instruction.
The whole grading breakdown
The published grade, requirement and stored commitment snapshot download with the route. Only the verdict is computed on the phone, against the active vehicle in your garage.
Recording a private activity
GPS recording is local and the resulting activity stays private. Hazards, photos and comments are separate submissions that go through moderation.
What genuinely needs a connection
- Downloading a route in the first place, which is why the app nags you to do it at home
- Uploading a private activity or submitting a hazard, photo or comment
- Condition reports from other drivers, and challenge standings
What it costs on the phone
A downloaded route is about 40 MB with its map tiles, so a full weekend of five routes is under 250 MB. Downloads are deleted from the phone, one route at a time, whenever you want the space back.

Tell somebody your plan
The commitment band tells you how far you would be from help. No app is a substitute for one person at home knowing which road you took.
Grades and commitment bands describe conditions at the time of the route's last check. Conditions can change after that check. Read the release date and current fact warnings before you leave, and do not treat a grade as a guarantee that a route is passable today.
